Hon. S. Margene Burnett (retired)

Judge Burnett brings almost 40 years of litigation experience to her ADR Practice, including 16 years in private practice and 22 years on the 16th Circuit (10 years as a probate commissioner and 12 years as a circuit judge). She began her career with Morris Larson PC, focusing on insurance defense and coverage issues, plaintiff personal injury, worker’s compensation, construction, employment, commercial litigation, products liability, business litigation, and appellate. She later moved to a solo practice and continued focusing on insurance defense including worker’s compensation, appellate, commercial litigation, family law, and representing the mentally ill and adults who are alleged to be incompetent for the probate division.

Once appointed to the probate division, then Commissioner Burnett presided over family and fiduciary disputes in probate matters including fiduciary litigation, discovery of assets, surety claims, and general probate administration in decedent, guardianship and conservatorship estates. On the Circuit bench, Judge Burnett tried hundreds of cases, both bench and jury trials, encompassing all matters civil, criminal and domestic. In addition, she conducted criminal mediations for other divisions as part of the 16th Circuit’s criminal mediation program.
